Turkish authorities issued detention orders for 18 suspects, including prominent actors Aras Bulut Iynemli and Melis Sezen, rapper Sefo and former footballer Hasan Sas, as part of a drug investigation being carried out by the Bakirkoy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul.
Teams from the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command carried out the operation following instructions from prosecutors on Sept. 18.
Among the other names listed in connection with the investigation were actress Nilperi Sahinkaya, Melis Isiten, Yeliz Yesilcimen, Anil Durmus, Hazal Filiz Kucukkose, Volkan Akciray, Zeynep Akciray, Eda Guzelcik, Sezer Cakir, Sayat Zurnaci and Hande Demir.
In a statement, the Bakirkoy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said the investigation involved people known publicly as actors, singers, businesspeople, venue operators and social media personalities.
Prosecutors said evidence had been obtained that supported reasonable suspicion that the suspects had used narcotic or stimulant substances, facilitated drug use or provided a place for such use.
The prosecutor's office said the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command had been instructed to detain and search 18 suspects, carry out biological examinations, take their statements and subsequently bring them before prosecutors.
The investigation remains under the authority of the Bakirkoy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
