Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Cafer Mahiroglu, chairman of the board and owner of pro-opposition Halk TV, in connection with an ongoing investigation related to former municipal official Aziz Ihsan Aktas.
Mahiroglu is accused of establishing and managing a criminal organization and manipulating public tenders, according to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation file opened in 2024 includes multiple charges such as criminal organization activities, tender rigging, bribery, money laundering, and tax violations. Following Aktas’ statements and investigative procedures, evidence suggested Mahiroglu’s involvement in interfering with tender processes, leading to the initiation of a formal investigation. Since Mahiroglu is believed to have left the country, the court issued an arrest warrant.
Aktas had previously been released after cooperating with authorities under a form of leniency. This development marks another significant legal action connected to figures linked with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).
