Turkish defense giant Aselsan's KGK-84 winged guidance kit successfully completed its first qualification range firing from an F-16 fighter jet at the Sinop Firing Range, the company said.
The kit lets fighter jets strike targets from up to 100 kilometers away without entering the range of enemy air defense systems, according to Aselsan.
Aselsan said the KGK-84 is preparing for service with advanced technologies that set it apart from its counterparts worldwide and the ability to follow preset waypoints with high precision from long range.
One of the munition's most critical components is its deployable wing system, which allows it to glide toward the target instead of free-falling.
With "fire-and-forget" capability, the KGK-84 can reach a range of 100 kilometers when released from an F-16, allowing fighter jets to attack from a safe zone outside the reach of enemy air defenses.
The system can also attack targets of opportunity and offers a selectable impact angle.
The KGK-84 is integrated with MK-84, MK-84-T, NEB and NEB-T free-fall bombs in the 2,000-pound class, converting them into highly reliable, long-range air-to-ground smart munitions.
Equipped with its own integrated inertial navigation system and global positioning system, the kit delivers high accuracy when released from long range without entering enemy territory.
The KGK-84's CRPA anti-jam antenna makes it resistant to Global Navigation Satellite System jamming, giving it resilience against electronic warfare.
The kit can operate day and night in all weather conditions, carries high destructive power, and is compatible with the MIL-STD-1760 military standard.
The first F-16 qualification firing marks a key step in bringing the KGK-84 into service.
