Defense Industry President Haluk Gorgun confirmed the technological achievement through a statement on the social media platform X.
"We have further confirmed the high technological competence we possess in the YILDIRIM-100 Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) System with a test process successfully completed against real missiles with warheads," Gorgun stated.
"With this system, which has been under development for a long time, we are protecting our air platforms against guided missile threats and advancing their survival capabilities," he added.
"The highest level we have reached in laser technology is no longer just an achievement but a capability area that we continuously develop," Gorgun emphasized.
YILDIRIM-100 operates in an integrated fashion with different missile warning systems and flare dispensers on platforms.
The system features a precision gimbal that sends laser energy to approaching guided missiles, blinding their seeker heads and changing the missiles' direction.
