Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said Tuesday that ship traffic in the Bosphorus was temporarily suspended in both directions due to restricted visibility caused by fog.
“Ship traffic in Bosphorus has been temporarily suspended in both directions due to restricted visibility (fog),” the ministry said in a statement.
Dense fog affected the Bosphorus area and several districts across Istanbul in the morning hours.
The fog, which formed in the early morning, was particularly intense around the Bosphorus, the July 15 Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.
It also affected districts on both the European and Asian sides of the city, including Besiktas, Sariyer, Umraniye, Uskudar, Beykoz, Cekmekoy, Sancaktepe and Atasehir.
Visibility dropped significantly in some areas, prompting drivers to proceed with caution.
Upper floors of high-rise buildings became obscured, while tall buildings and historical structures along the Bosphorus were partially covered by the fog.
