President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by phone, pressing for negotiations on the Ukraine conflict to continue without delay and warning that the ongoing hostilities involving Iran should not be allowed to disrupt the search for peace in Ukraine.
During the call, Erdogan emphasized that the conflict process in Iran must not obstruct peace efforts in Ukraine, stating that it would be beneficial for negotiations to proceed without losing time. The Turkish president underlined the importance of healing Ukraine's wounds, launching reconstruction activities and ensuring lasting security for the country.
Erdogan also raised the issue of navigational safety in the Black Sea, describing it as critically important for Türkiye.
He said that securing a ceasefire capable of protecting energy infrastructure and ports could help build trust between the warring parties, and pledged that Türkiye would provide whatever support it could toward that goal.
According to a statement released by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the two leaders also addressed Türkiye-Ukraine bilateral relations alongside broader regional and global issues, though no further details on those topics were disclosed.
Türkiye has positioned itself as a key mediator since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in Feb. 2022, having brokered the Black Sea grain corridor agreement and hosted early rounds of negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. Ankara maintains diplomatic ties with both sides of the conflict and has repeatedly offered to facilitate talks.
