A fire broke out Tuesday at Bursa's historic Kayhan Bazaar, a well-known market area associated with second-hand goods, old buildings and the city's famous pideli kofte.
The fire reportedly started on the second floor of a shop selling second-hand furniture in the Bat Pazari section of the bazaar, a local market known for used goods.
According to initial information, the flames were believed to have been caused by an electrical fault before quickly spreading to the roof of the old building.
Thick black smoke rose over the area and was visible from several parts of Bursa, drawing attention across the city as the fire moved through the upper part of the structure.
Following the emergency call, multiple fire crews from the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department were sent to the scene. Firefighters continued efforts to bring the blaze under control.
Police teams set up security measures around the fire zone and did not allow civilians to enter the area while emergency teams worked at the scene.
An investigation into the fire has been launched, while extinguishing efforts were reported to be continuing at the time of the initial report.
