Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday, discussing ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding multiple regional conflicts.
According to information obtained from Turkish Foreign Ministry sources, the phone call between Fidan and Rubio focused on steps being taken to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The two officials also reviewed the results of negotiations held in Istanbul on Monday, the sources indicated.
Russia and Ukraine held a second round of direct negotiations in Istanbul early Monday, agreeing to hold another prisoner-of-war exchange and sharing their respective memoranda for a cease-fire and settlement.
The two sides agreed to swap all seriously wounded and sick prisoners, as well as prisoners of war under age 25.
Istanbul hosted the previous round of talks on May 16, resulting in the largest prisoner swap between the two countries since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
