Türkiye’s Hisar A+ autonomous air defense system successfully hit a jet-powered target with a missile fitted with an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker during a test firing, the Defense Industry Agency (SSB) said Saturday.

The test, conducted under the Hisar project coordinated by the SSB with Roketsan and Aselsan as prime contractors, once again demonstrated the system’s effectiveness in the field, the agency said.

"In our agency’s 41st year of pride, the autonomous will of our Sky Homeland, Hisar A+ Autonomous, successfully hit its target," SSB President Haluk Gorgun said.

"Hisar A+ Autonomous once again proved its effectiveness in the field with its imaging infrared (IIR) seeker-headed missile," he added.

Hisar A+: All functions in one vehicle

The Hisar-A system was developed to provide air defense for armored and mechanized units and fixed units. It has a range of more than 15 kilometers and an altitude of 10 kilometers, and is effective against air-breathing targets, drones, cruise missiles and air-to-ground missiles.

The system has two configurations. In the missile launch system configuration, detection, identification, tracking, firing and command and control are handled by a fire control unit. The autonomous Hisar-A performs all of these functions on its own.

The Hisar-A missile features an IIR seeker, a dual-pulse solid-fuel motor and vertical launch capability.

"The system, which is in our forces’ inventory and was developed with the contributions of more than 200 domestic companies, brings all its components together in a single vehicle and adds strength to our air defense capability," Gorgun said.

Built by Turkish industry

Aselsan developed the radar, command and control and fire control systems, electro-optical systems, and the missile seeker, while Roketsan developed the missile and TUBITAK SAGE the warhead.

Aselsan also developed the ground systems.

"Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, we will continue to develop our national and domestic capabilities in line with our goal of a fully independent defense industry," Gorgun said, adding, "I thank our engineers, technicians and all stakeholders who contributed to this success. Happy 41st anniversary of our agency."

The SSB was established on Nov. 7, 1985. The Hisar A+ test marked its 41st anniversary.
