Istanbul Airport ranked as Europe's busiest airport between July 13 and 19, according to a report by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL).
The agency's weekly "European Aviation Overview" showed Istanbul Airport recorded a daily average of 1,623 flights during the period, placing it first among the continent's busiest hubs by flight movements.
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport followed with a daily average of 1,398 flights, while Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport recorded 1,395.
London Heathrow Airport ranked fourth with 1,331 daily flights, and Frankfurt Airport rounded out the top five with 1,320.
Istanbul Airport, located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of Türkiye's largest city, opened in October 2018 and became fully operational in April 2019, taking over air traffic from the city's former Atatürk Airport.
IGA operates the facility under a 25-year concession and currently has an annual capacity of 90 million passengers.
In 2025, the airport handled 84.5 million passengers and 547,000 flights, maintaining a network of more than 330 destinations.
It serves as the main hub for flag carrier Turkish Airlines and an operating base for Pegasus Airlines.
A fourth runway is under construction and scheduled for completion by the end of August 2026, part of ongoing expansion plans aimed at raising capacity to 120 million passengers
