The death toll from severe flooding in Istanbul has risen to six after authorities recovered the body of another missing person near the Ayvansaray Ferry Pier on Monday, while search teams continue looking for one person still unaccounted for.
According to a statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office, the body was identified as Hasim Ciritlioglu, who had gone missing during the flooding that followed heavy rainfall across the city on Oct. 14.
Maritime police, supported by a police helicopter, located a man's body near the Ayvansaray Ferry Pier as search operations continued following last week's devastating rainfall.
An initial examination confirmed that the deceased was Ciritlioglu, bringing the number of people killed in Istanbul's floods to six.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down one remaining missing person in the area.
Meanwhile, the death toll from flooding in Kocaeli's Gebze district has climbed to two after search teams recovered the body of another person who had been inside a vehicle swept away by floodwaters.
The latest discovery confirmed a second fatality in Gebze, as authorities continued dealing with the aftermath of the flooding.
