The Istanbul Governorate temporarily suspended operations at several central metro stations on Saturday due to precautionary security measures.
According to a statement from the Istanbul Governor’s Office, three key stations in the city center—Taksim Metro Station, the Istiklal Street entrance of Sishane Metro Station, and the Taksim-Kabatas funicular line—will be closed starting 3 p.m. local time until further notice.
Metro Istanbul, the city’s main urban rail operator, confirmed the closures and added that trains on the M2 Yenikapi–Haciosman line will not stop at Taksim Station during this period.
In a written statement on X, the company announced that, in accordance with the decision by the Istanbul Governor’s Office, the M2 Yenikapi–Haciosman Metro Line’s Taksim Station, the Istiklal Avenue entrance of Sishane Station, and the F1 Taksim–Kabatas Funicular Line would be out of service from 3 p.m. local time (GMT+3) onward until further notice.
It added that metro vehicles would bypass Taksim Station and continue their routes without stopping.
