The PKK/KCK terrorist group evacuated four shelters in the Metina region of northern Iraq on Oct. 8 as part of Türkiye's process to end the group’s activities, Turkish security sources stated Monday.
The shelters, named Hebat, Yajk, Sabri and Sason, are in the Baze area of Metina, the sources said. They were cleared under efforts to empty shelters seen as posing a risk of renewed conflict and a threat to Türkiye's security.
The evacuation is the latest step in the Terror-Free Türkiye process, under which the PKK announced its dissolution in 2025, and paves the way for its members' eventual return and reintegration into Turkish society.
"The ‘Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration’ vision, launched to ensure stability in the region and strengthen Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood, is being pursued resolutely and without compromise," the security sources said in a statement.
"This multidimensional process constitutes a historic turning point for the future of our country," the sources added.
The sources said the evacuation was an indication that the Terror-Free Türkiye process was continuing with determination.
"Following the termination of the PKK/KCK’s activities in all areas, in later stages of the process, social reconciliation will be achieved with group members who will return to our country by benefiting from the law," the statement said.
"With integrated programs in many areas such as education and economy, the integration of PKK/KCK members with society is aimed," it added.
"With the success of the process, all segments of society, hand in hand on the basis of Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood, will live together in peace and tranquility in every corner of our country," the sources said.
The PKK announced in May 2025 that it would dissolve and end its armed campaign, and members burned weapons at a ceremony near Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq on July 11, 2025.
In October 2025, the group said it was withdrawing all its forces from Türkiye to northern Iraq.
