Turkish security forces captured 153 suspected Daesh members across 28 provinces during counterterrorism operations conducted over the past two weeks, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced Friday.

The provinces targeted in the operations included Istanbul, Adana, Izmir, Gaziantep, Hatay, and others.

The nationwide gendarmerie operations targeted Daesh terrorist group's activities, including membership, financial support to affiliated organizations, and social media propaganda efforts, according to Yerlikaya's social media statement.

Suspects involved in terror financing, propaganda

Yerlikaya detailed the scope of criminal activities discovered during the operations, emphasizing the multi-faceted nature of the suspected terror network.

"It was determined that the suspects arrested in the operations were members of the terror organization, provided financing to so-called aid organizations affiliated with the terror organization, and conducted terror organization propaganda through social media accounts," Yerlikaya stated.

The minister noted how Daesh operatives use charitable organizations as fronts to finance terrorism while simultaneously conducting recruitment and radicalization efforts through digital platforms.

"Our fight against terrorism is not limited to the field operations of our law enforcement forces; it is based on a multidimensional state reflex encompassing security, intelligence, communication, and international cooperation," Yerlikaya stated.
