Türkiye's Defense Minister Yasar Guler clarified that recent technical talks with Israel regarding deconfliction efforts in Syria should not be interpreted as a step toward normalization between the two countries.
Speaking to the press on current regional issues, Guler addressed Türkiye’s military presence in Syria and relations with Israel amid ongoing regional instability.
Regarding Turkish military operations in Syria, Guler stated: "Türkiye will reassess the presence of its forces in Syria only when the terrorist threat is completely eliminated, border security is fully ensured, and refugees are able to return safely."
Commenting on the nature of ongoing talks with Israel in Syria, Guler emphasized: "Türkiye is providing military training and advisory support in Syria, strengthening local defense capabilities. Technical discussions with Israel are ongoing strictly for deconfliction purposes."
He added: "But let it be clear—establishing a deconfliction mechanism does not mean normalization of ties with Israel."
