Attorney Emir Abbas Gurbuz, secretary general of the Turkish Atlantic Council, has announced his candidacy for president of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA).

Gurbuz aims to strengthen transatlantic cooperation and enhance civil diplomacy.

In his announcement, Gurbuz noted that the international system is undergoing a significant transformation. He emphasized the need to preserve trust among allies and strengthen the will to act jointly against new challenges.

As part of his campaign, Gurbuz has prepared a white paper outlining a roadmap for institutional renewal. His platform focuses on building a financially and institutionally robust organization based on consultation.

Key priorities include ensuring all member countries are effectively represented, increasing joint efforts on emerging security issues, and engaging youth more actively.

The ATA presidency is a prominent position that helps shape the civilian agenda of the Alliance. To support the election process and organizational activities, the ATA Türkiye delegation has submitted an official proposal and allocated a budget to host the upcoming General Assembly in Istanbul.
