Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Thursday for talks expected to focus on Gaza, Syria and bilateral ties, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
Fidan last visited the UAE in May, when he met President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the upcoming visit, Fidan is expected to discuss Türkiye’s push to expand multifaceted cooperation with the Gulf state, the sources said. Talks will also cover efforts to secure a cease-fire and permanent peace in Gaza, including the 20-point plan announced Monday by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The foreign minister will also stress the importance of supporting Syria’s government to achieve stability and development in the war-torn country, according to the sources.
During his previous visit to the UAE on May 5, Fidan was received by Sheikh Mohammed and held talks with Sheikh Abdullah.
Relations between Türkiye and the UAE were elevated to a strategic partnership in July 2023 during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Abu Dhabi, when the two sides agreed to establish a High-Level Strategic Council.
The council’s first meeting was held in Ankara this July, co-chaired by Erdogan and Sheikh Mohamed.
Trade between Türkiye and the UAE, Türkiye’s largest trading partner in the Gulf, reached nearly $16 billion in 2024.
Before arriving in the UAE, Fidan will also travel to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to attend an international conference in the northwestern city of Al-Ula.
