Turkish security forces arrested 85 suspects Friday in separate counterterrorism operations targeting the Daesh terror group in eastern Türkiye, authorities said.
In the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, eight suspects were arrested on allegations of sharing social media posts praising Daesh, the governor’s office said in a statement.
The operation was conducted under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office after authorities identified online propaganda linked to the group.
In the eastern province of Agri, police detained and formally arrested 10 suspects during simultaneous raids targeting alleged Daesh activity. Security forces seized banned publications and digital materials during searches of the addresses, officials said.
Separately, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said 67 of 147 suspects detained in a large-scale operation against Daesh were formally arrested. The suspects included 41 individuals found to have links to the group’s members in the northwestern province of Yalova.
Authorities said 32 other detainees were transferred to a repatriation center for deportation on the grounds that they pose a threat to public security.
Investigators identified a suspected ringleader accused of organizing illegal classes and preaching sessions to recruit supporters. Officials said dozens of suspects were linked to the Yalova attack, propaganda activities or travel to conflict zones.
As part of the investigation, security forces carried out simultaneous raids at 114 addresses in Istanbul and two other provinces on Dec. 30, 2025, detaining 110 suspects.
Authorities said investigations are continuing as part of Türkiye’s broader efforts to disrupt Daesh recruitment, propaganda and organizational activities following a deadly attack in Yalova on Dec. 29 that killed three police officers.
