Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a sharp rebuke of Israel's ground offensive into Lebanese territory, calling it a clear violation of international law and Lebanon's sovereignty, and warning that the operation risks plunging the Middle East into a new humanitarian catastrophe.

In a written statement, the ministry condemned the incursion "in the strongest possible terms," saying it deepens instability across the region and undermines ongoing efforts toward peace.

Ankara accuses Netanyahu government of collective punishment

The ministry directed pointed criticism at the Israeli government, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration of extending what it described as genocidal and collective punishment policies into Lebanon.

"The Netanyahu government's implementation of its genocide and collective punishment policies, this time in Lebanon, will lead to a new humanitarian disaster in the region," the statement read.

At the core of Ankara's condemnation is the principle of state sovereignty. The ministry described the ground operation as an outright violation of Lebanon's territorial integrity and reaffirmed Türkiye's solidarity with Beirut. "We once again emphasize that we stand in solidarity with Lebanon in the face of these attacks that violate Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the statement said.

Türkiye has historically positioned itself as a defender of sovereignty norms in the region, and the statement aligns with that broader foreign policy posture.

The ministry also underscored concerns that the offensive is pushing an already volatile region toward a more dangerous phase.

The statement noted that the new wave of attacks launched by Israel has carried instability in the Middle East to an increasingly perilous level, while peace efforts in the region are being actively sabotaged.
