Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on Oct. 30-31, where he is expected to address regional conflicts, mounting geopolitical tensions and threats to global energy and trade security, Turkish diplomatic sources said Thursday.
Fidan is scheduled to speak during Friday's sessions on geopolitical tensions, energy and supply chains, highlighting Türkiye's diplomatic efforts to prevent regional conflicts from escalating and strengthen international cooperation.
According to the sources, Fidan will emphasize the need to increase international pressure on Israel over its continued attacks and uncompromising position, which Ankara says are undermining efforts to achieve lasting peace in Gaza.
He is also expected to reaffirm Türkiye's support for resolving tensions between the United States and Iran through dialogue and diplomacy, warning that continued hostilities are aggravating existing vulnerabilities across the region.
Maritime security is expected to feature prominently in Fidan's remarks, particularly the growing risks facing international shipping and energy infrastructure in strategic waterways.
The Turkish foreign minister is expected to draw attention to attacks on commercial vessels and energy facilities in the Black Sea, the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf region.
He will underline the adverse consequences of these attacks for global energy and food security, as well as international trade and supply chains.
Fidan is also expected to stress the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring the security of maritime routes critical to international commerce.
Turning to the Russia-Ukraine war, Fidan is expected to warn about the risks associated with the intensifying conflict, including the possibility of hostilities spreading to new areas.
He will highlight Türkiye's continued contacts with both Moscow and Kyiv as part of Ankara's efforts to restore security and stability in the Black Sea.
The minister is also expected to reaffirm Türkiye's commitment to addressing regional disputes through diplomacy, guided by the principle of regional ownership.
In this context, Fidan will emphasize the importance of constructive cooperation with international partners to resolve ongoing conflicts and strengthen regional peace, security and stability.
