Türkiye's Center for Countering Disinformation (DMM) denied claims that a two-day curfew would be imposed in Ankara because of the upcoming NATO summit, saying there is no such decision for the capital during the July 7-8 meeting.

DMM, which operates under the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, said in a statement on its NSosyal account that claims circulating on some social media platforms did not reflect the truth.

The statement said no curfew decision had been taken in Ankara as part of the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, which will be held in the capital on July 7-8.

"All necessary legal processes are also being carried out against baseless claims aimed at creating panic and uncertainty among the public ahead of the summit," the center said.

"It is strongly requested that our citizens follow only the statements of relevant official institutions for current and accurate information," it added.

NATO leaders to gather in Ankara

The July 7-8 summit in Ankara will be NATO's 36th leaders' summit and the second hosted by Türkiye, following the alliance's 2004 summit in Istanbul.

Leaders from NATO's 32 member states are expected to gather at the Bestepe Presidential Complex for two days of talks on the alliance's security priorities.

The meeting comes at a sensitive moment for the alliance, with debates intensifying over defense spending, military readiness, support for Ukraine and the future distribution of security responsibilities between the U.S. and European allies.

Another key topic is expected to be burden-sharing within the alliance, following recent calls from Washington for European members to assume a greater role in regional defense and contribute more resources to NATO operations.

DMM warns against baseless claims

DMM said the claim that Ankara would face a two-day curfew because of the NATO summit was false.

The center said legal action was being pursued against false claims that aim to create public panic and uncertainty before the summit.

Authorities urged citizens to rely only on announcements from official institutions for updated and accurate information.

The statement came as preparations continue for the high-level NATO meeting in Ankara, where alliance leaders are expected to discuss key security priorities over two days.
