Türkiye announces the deployment of six F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MoND) stated that the F-16s and air defense systems were deployed to the TRNC.

"As part of the phased approach to enhancing the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in light of recent developments in our region, six F-16 fighter aircraft and air defense systems have been deployed to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as of today," the Turkish Ministry of National Defense stated on X.

"Additional measures will continue to be taken based on further developments, if deemed necessary. Respectfully announced to the public," the statement noted.

Shortly after the MoND's announcement, the F-16s sent by Türkiye arrived at Ercan Airport in the TRNC for the first time to be deployed on the island. Upon arriving in the TRNC, the F-16s passed over the runway and performed their first flyover.

The announcement came amid escalating tensions due to the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.

On Wednesday, Greek F-16V fighter jets landed at Paphos Airport in Greek Cyprus following recent Iranian attacks linked to the regional escalation.

The United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and over 1,300 civilians.

Iran has retaliated with strikes across the region targeting U.S. bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel, as well as Israeli cities, with at least seven U.S. service members killed.
