Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday reiterated Türkiye’s willingness to support peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine, including hosting negotiations at any stage of the process.

In a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Erdogan discussed bilateral relations along with regional and global developments, Türkiye’s presidency announced on X.

“During the call, President Erdogan emphasized the significance of the will to resume direct talks between Russia and Ukraine and said that Türkiye stands ready to provide the necessary support at every stage of the process,” the statement said.

Erdogan added that Ankara would be pleased to welcome both Russian and Ukrainian delegations for peace negotiations in Türkiye.

'Window of opportunity'

He underscored that a comprehensive cease-fire would create the necessary conditions for initiating meaningful talks, and urged both sides not to miss the current “window of opportunity.”

Zelenskyy, in turn, thanked Erdogan for his “support and readiness to facilitate diplomacy at the highest level,” and said that holding a meeting in Türkiye could represent a major step toward ending the war.

“It is also essential that our partners ensure monitoring of the ceasefire,” Zelenskyy added, reaffirming Kyiv’s readiness for direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“President Erdogan and I agreed to continue our joint efforts to ensure peace,” he said.
