Türkiye is in consultations with U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration on regional crises, including Gaza, the Russia-Ukraine war, and Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday.
“In Trump’s second term, our contacts are intensified and institutional dialogue gained momentum,” Erdogan said during a speech at a dinner hosted by the Turkish American National Steering Committee in New York City.
Erdogan announced that he will meet Trump on Thursday, saying the visit would allow them to discuss “many important issues.”
“Thanks to my long-standing friendship with Trump, we developed a mutual will to resolve certain issues on our agenda,” he said.
Erdogan voiced confidence that the strength of the Muslim community in the United States will be a “source of confidence and courage for all Muslims around the world.”
Amid a global climate of polarization in diplomacy, security, economics and technology, he called U.S.-Turkish solidarity “more indispensable than ever.”
“We continue our efforts to advance Turkish-American relations based on alliance and strategic partnership,” he said. “Cooperation between our countries is diversifying and deepening in many areas such as security, trade, investments, energy and education.”
He praised U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack for “sincere efforts” in fostering the relationship and reiterated Türkiye’s determination to boost bilateral trade to $100 billion.
Erdogan also highlighted what he described as an alarming rise in Islamophobia and cultural racism worldwide.
“As Türkiye continues to speak the truth, defend peace and justice in its region and stand up for the oppressed—especially in Gaza—the number of campaigns aimed at silencing and intimidating both Türkiye and myself has increased,” he said.
Ankara, he said, will not bow to pressure.
“Anyone who expects Tayyip Erdogan or Türkiye to tolerate oppression or remain silent in the face of massacres is wasting their time,” he declared. “No power, lobby or disinformation campaign can stop us from boldly speaking the truth.”
