Türkiye's Ministry of National Defense (MoND) welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran on Thursday, calling on all relevant parties to act responsibly to protect the deal and prevent attempts to undermine it.
"We welcome the agreement reached to end hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, and hope that this agreement will contribute to lasting peace, security, and stability in the region," the ministry said in a statement following its weekly press briefing held at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) aerospace campus in Kahramankazan.
The ministry said Türkiye would continue to prioritize regional peace and stability and support the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
"It is of great importance that all relevant parties display a sensible, measured and responsible stance in terms of preserving the agreement and preventing attempts to sabotage it," the ministry said.
The statement also noted that Türkiye is closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the protection of energy supply security, maritime trade, and navigational safety as critical to global stability.
"Our country is ready to contribute to efforts in these areas within the framework of international law," the ministry said.
Also, on Thursday, the ministry announced that an Italian-owned SAMP/T air defense system had been deployed at the 3rd Main Jet Base Command in Konya under NATO's Permanent Defense Plan to strengthen the alliance's air defenses.
The ministry noted that Türkiye is also continuing to develop its own domestic air defense systems. It said the Siper Air Defense Weapon System, in the inventory of the Air Force Command, successfully destroyed a high-speed, high-maneuverability Super Simsek aerial target during a test at the Sinop firing range on June 12, thereby reaching full operational capability.
"The fundamental aim of all work carried out under the Steel Dome project is to strengthen our country's multi-layered air and missile defense capacity, increase its deterrence and secure national security at the highest level," the ministry said.
Defense Minister Yasar Guler attended the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting and the NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels on Thursday, according to ministry spokesman Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk.
Akturk said Guler would highlight Türkiye's contributions to NATO operations and missions, progress in the modernization of the Turkish Armed Forces, efforts toward a 5% defense spending target, support for Ukraine bilaterally and within the NATO framework, and satisfaction with the agreement reached to end the Iran-U.S. war.
Preparations for the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit, planned for July 7-8 in Ankara, were also on the agenda. The ministry said all security measures have been taken, and coordination with relevant ministries and institutions is ongoing.
A reception will be held for visiting defense ministers and their delegations at the Ay-Yildiz headquarters.
The ministry said 503 military personnel from five countries, Kyrgyzstan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Mali, both sides of Libya, and Somalia, are currently receiving training at the Mountain and Commando School and Training Center Command in Isparta.
Under the 2026-2027 guest military personnel quota plan, training slots have been allocated to 448 personnel from 16 countries, with further increases expected based on additional requests received throughout the year.
