US-made AEGIR unmanned surface vessel washes ashore in Türkiye's Ordu

An AEGIR unmanned surface vessel (USV) belonging to U.S.-based Sierra Nevada Corporation was found by civilians on a beach in the Unye district of Ordu province on Türkiye's Black Sea coast.

The vessel, which is believed to have been used for testing against Russia in the Ukraine war, will be destroyed after an inspection by authorities.

Gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the Yuceler neighborhood beach in Unye after citizens reported finding an unidentified object on the shore.

Inspections confirmed the object is an unmanned surface vehicle.

Security measures have been taken, and a perimeter has been established around the area.

After a detailed inspection, the vessel is expected to be towed approximately two miles offshore and destroyed.

The investigation is ongoing.
