Claims circulating online that Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman, Abu Ubaida, whose real name was given as Hudhayfah Abdullah al-Kahlout, is a Turkish citizen with a Turkish passport, were denied by the Turkish Interior Ministry sources talking to Türkiye Today.
The claims, which date back to 2023, allege that Abu Ubeida's real name is Suhaib al-Kahlout, a well-known YouTuber who allegedly holds Turkish citizenship with ancestral roots in Anatolia.
These claims resurfaced in the media after the Palestinian Hamas group confirmed the death of its military commander, Abu Ubaida, on Monday, December 29.
However, when Türkiye Today contacted the Interior Ministry for verification, officials stated that no record was found in their database matching the name mentioned in the reports or several variations of the name and surname.
"No record was found in our database with the name in the report and with searches using several names and surnames," an Interior Ministry official said.
The unverified claims, which spread rapidly on social media, alleged that the individual known as Abu Ubeida carries a Turkish passport and is supported by a major media organization with professional studios.
