Türkiye’s Communications Director Burhanettin Duran on Wednesday rejected remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Türkiye, calling them defamatory and deeply inconsistent.

In a statement posted on social media, Duran said it was unacceptable for an Israeli government—which faces genocide accusations at the International Court of Justice—to criticize Türkiye or target Erdogan.

“It is one of the greatest inconsistencies in history that those standing trial at the International Court of Justice over accusations of genocide in Gaza attempt to smear Türkiye, the conscience of humanity, and shamelessly target our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the voice of the oppressed,” Duran said.

Duran accuses Israeli government of defamation

Duran accused the Israeli government of killing tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank over decades, leaving children facing hunger, destroying cities and disregarding international law.

He said that a government and its leadership with a "record filled with shame and immorality" had no standing to lecture Türkiye on the matter.

Duran said Netanyahu’s remarks amounted to an attempt to attack Türkiye through accusations and propaganda. “Slander and propaganda cannot change the facts,” he said.

He added that accusations from what he described as a mindset condemned by the conscience of humanity could neither alter Türkiye’s position nor change the truth.

Türkiye to continue supporting oppressed: Duran

Duran said Türkiye would continue to defend what it considers the truth and stand against oppression under Erdogan’s leadership.

“Under the leadership of our president, Türkiye will continue to be the voice of the oppressed, defend the truth and stand against the oppressor,” he said.

He said Netanyahu’s remarks would not affect Türkiye’s stance on Gaza, the occupied West Bank or its broader position on the Palestinian issue.

Türkiye's Foreign Ministry also rejected remarks by Netanyahu, saying his accusations against President Erdogan were baseless and intended to divert attention from Israel's actions.

In a written statement on Tuesday, the ministry said Netanyahu's comments represented an attempt by him and his associates to mislead the international community through “unfounded, provocative and false allegations” directed at Erdogan.

“The lies resorted to by genocide expert Netanyahu to cover up the truth cannot conceal responsibility for the grave crimes he has committed,” the ministry said.

The statement added that Türkiye would continue to “state the truth about Netanyahu and his collaborators in the clearest terms” and would persist in efforts to ensure they are held accountable before international judicial bodies for actions that “disregard the law and humanitarian values.”
