Israeli forces continued attacks across southern Lebanon on Thursday, hitting areas in Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil, as Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said ongoing Israeli strikes and occupation were obstructing implementation of a U.S.-sponsored framework agreement.
The attacks included airstrikes, artillery fire, gunfire, explosions, bulldozing and the burning of homes, while Israeli drones were also reported over Beirut, its southern suburbs and Hermel district, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency, or NNA.
In Tyre district, Israeli forces repeatedly struck Al-Mansouri, targeting residential areas and infrastructure, while artillery also hit nearby locations including Wadi al-Aziyeh and Al-Hinniyeh.
Israeli warplanes also struck Al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun and nearby valleys overnight. Later Thursday, aircraft fired two missiles at Al-Mansouri before carrying out another raid, while Israeli forces continued bulldozing homes there.
In Nabatieh district, an Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade near Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, while homes were burned in Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh. Artillery also hit areas near Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Mayfadoun and Kfar Tebnit, while an explosion was reported in Yahmar al-Shaqif.
In Bint Jbeil district, Israeli artillery shelled Hadatha and an explosion was reported in Aita al-Shaab. Israeli forces also opened machine-gun fire toward Wadi al-Hujair near Qabrikha in Marjayoun district.
Low-flying Israeli drones were also reported over Beirut, its southern suburbs and Hermel.
The attacks coincided with Aoun’s participation in Paris in a preparatory meeting for an international conference supporting the Lebanese army and internal security forces.
Aoun said the tripartite “framework formula” with Israel was intended to end the war and begin a new phase of security and stability.
“Lebanon has fulfilled its commitments, but completing the implementation of this commitment and consolidating stability cannot be achieved amid continued Israeli attacks and violations and the occupation of parts of Lebanese territory,” he said.
He added that the Lebanese army’s role was expanding, especially in the south, where it is expected to strengthen the state’s presence and protect stability.
Lebanon and Israel signed a U.S.-sponsored framework agreement in Washington on June 26, providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.
Aoun has previously said the main challenge is securing Israel’s withdrawal from occupied villages and towns and deploying the Lebanese army to the international border.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli attacks from March 2 through Sept. 17 killed 4,386 people and injured 12,407, according to NNA.
The ministry said the overall toll since Oct. 8, 2023 had reached 8,953 killed and 30,643 injured.
