Arab and Islamic countries strongly condemned Iran’s “deliberate” ballistic missile and drone attacks, calling for an immediate halt and respect for international law, a joint statement issued Thursday said.

Foreign ministers from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates met in Riyadh on March 18 to discuss recent Iranian attacks and the broader regional escalation.

The ministers said the attacks targeted civilian areas and infrastructure in neighboring countries, stressing that such actions “cannot be justified under any circumstances.”

Call for de-escalation, maritime security

The statement reaffirmed that states have the right to defend themselves in line with Article 51 of the U.N. Charter, while urging Iran to halt its attacks and pursue diplomacy to reduce tensions.

The ministers also called on Iran to refrain from threatening international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and maritime security in the Bab el-Mandab.

They further urged Tehran to stop supporting, financing and arming affiliated militias in Arab countries.

The ministers reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability and territorial integrity, backing efforts to ensure weapons remain under state control.

They also condemned Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and what they described as expansionist policies in the region.

Türkiye participates in Riyadh meeting

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the meeting in Riyadh hosted by Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Ministry said.

In a statement posted on X, the ministry confirmed Fidan’s participation in the gathering focused on recent regional developments.
