At least 20 civilians were killed and 30 others injured in U.S. and Israeli strikes on the southern Iranian city of Shiraz, an Iranian provincial official said Friday.

“Twenty innocent citizens have been martyred and 30 others have been injured in this terrorist attack,” Jalil Hasani, deputy governor of Fars province, said, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

Hasani said the attack struck a residential area in the town of Zibashahr in Shiraz.

Iranian media also reported that the strikes caused significant damage to local infrastructure.

According to Mehr News Agency, Fars province Deputy Governor Jalil Hosseini said the attack occurred around Zibashahr Park in Shiraz.

“In the attack carried out around Zibashahr Park in the city of Shiraz, 20 civilians lost their lives and 30 people were injured,” Hosseini said.

He added that the 115 Emergency Center in Shiraz was completely destroyed in the strike and that several municipal facilities were also damaged.

Meanwhile, Fars Emergency Unit Head Dr. Masoud Abed said two health workers serving at the 115 Emergency Center were among those killed in the attack.

Israel and the United States launched military strikes on Iran starting Feb. 28 while negotiations between Tehran and Washington were ongoing.

Iran retaliated by targeting selected sites in several regional countries hosting U.S. military assets, primarily Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, as well as Israel.

Several senior Iranian officials were reported killed in the U.S.-Israeli attacks, including Iran’s leader Ali Khamenei.

Authorities said more than 1,000 people have died in strikes across multiple cities in Iran since the conflict escalated.
