Azerbaijan demanded an explanation from Iran after two Iranian drones crossed the border and injured two people in the Nakhchivan exclave, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.
According to the ministry, one drone fell on the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Iranian border.
The incident left two people injured, Azerbaijani authorities said.
Officials also reported that another Iranian Shahed drone was detected near a school building in a nearby village.
In a statement, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry called on Iran to clarify the incident and prevent similar events from happening again.
“We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran clarify the matter in the shortest possible time, provide an explanation and take the necessary urgent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future,” the statement said.
The ministry also said Azerbaijan reserves the right to take “appropriate response measures” against Tehran following the drone incidents.
The developments come amid rising regional tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran.
A separate missile fell in Türkiye a day earlier, raising additional concerns about the potential spread of instability in the region.
