Iranian media reported unexplained explosions near Qeshm Island and Bandar Khamir, close to the Strait of Hormuz, while residents on Qeshm said two projectiles struck part of the island.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency said residents heard the sound of an aircraft before two projectiles “impacted in the Susa area” of Qeshm Island.

Local and provincial authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident, IRNA said.

Tasnim news agency also reported two missile impacts on Qeshm Island but stressed that no information had yet been released by official sources.

Source of explosions remains unclear

Iranian media also reported explosion sounds near Bandar Khamir, but the source was not immediately known.

One report raised the possibility that Iranian armed forces may have fired warning shots at vessels attempting to use an alternative southern route through the Strait of Hormuz, though this had not been officially confirmed.

Residents of Qeshm Island also reported hearing what they described as a fighter jet before the two projectile impacts.

No official statement had been issued on the cause of the explosions or the reported impacts.
