An attack on Iraq's Basra port early Thursday killed at least one person and forced authorities to halt operations at all of the country's oil terminals, officials said.
Farhan al-Fartousi, director-general of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, said the attack targeted a vessel engaged in a ship-to-ship transfer of oil at Basra port on the Persian Gulf.
Al-Fartousi announced in a statement carried by the state-run Iraqi News Agency.
Rescue teams recovered one body after the strike and assisted 38 other people, he said.
A total of 13 ships have been attacked in and around the Arabian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman between 28 February and 11 March, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.
Al-Fartousi said it remained unclear whether the ship was struck by a flying drone, a seaborne drone, or a missile.
Following the attack, authorities halted operations at all of Iraq's oil terminals.
He added that commercial ports across the country remain open despite the suspension of oil terminal operations.
