Both U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian drew hard lines Monday on a potential peace deal, with Trump ruling out a 2015-style nuclear accord and Pezeshkian rejecting "excessive" American demands.

"The deal with Iran will either be a great and meaningful one, or there will be no deal. It will be the exact opposite of the JCPOA disaster negotiated by the failed Obama Administration, which was a direct and open path to a Nuclear Weapon for Iran. No, I don't do deals like that!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

Meanwhile, Pezeshkian, speaking to members of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, said, "The negotiations have been planned in such a way that the rights of the Iranian nation are fully secured. Although the enemy has shifted its focus to economic warfare after military failure, the government and the private sector, by working together with solidarity, empathy and cooperation, will also get through this stage successfully."

The U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28. Iran retaliated with strikes on Israel and U.S. Gulf allies and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect on April 8 and was later extended indefinitely by Trump.

On Saturday, Trump said a deal had been "largely negotiated," before subsequently posting on Sunday that he had told his negotiators not to rush.
