The Ro-Ro vessel NADEZHDA, which was hit by a drone attack in the Black Sea on Aug. 3 while sailing from Russia’s Novorossiysk port to Samsun, was brought to Samsun after its cargo was transferred to another ship.
The vessel had been about 20 nautical miles off Novorossiysk when it was struck. Türkiye’s Directorate General of Maritime Affairs previously said 22 crew members were aboard, including 13 Turkish citizens.
The crew was safely evacuated to Novorossiysk port by Russian maritime forces following the attack, according to the directorate.
Initial information indicated that three crew members may have been seriously injured.
The empty trailers carried aboard NADEZHDA were transferred to another vessel while the ship remained off Novorossiysk.
After the transfer was completed, NADEZHDA departed Friday night and reached waters off Samsun.
The vessel was then guided into Samsun port with the assistance of tugboats under the supervision of teams from the Samsun Provincial Police Department’s Maritime Port Branch.
Significant damage was visible on the ship’s deck after it docked.
Following the Aug. 3 attack, the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs said initial assessments showed damage to the vessel’s accommodation area and bow.
A fire was also continuing aboard the ship at the time.
The directorate said rescue operations could not initially be carried out because of the continuing risk of drone attacks in the area.
“Following contact with MRCC Novo, it was learned that the seafarers aboard the vessel were safely evacuated to Novorossiysk Port by Russian maritime units,” the directorate said in its earlier statement.
It added that developments were being closely monitored and expressed wishes for the crew members to recover and return safely to their families.
