A passenger became violent aboard an AJet flight from London to Istanbul on Wednesday, biting and injuring a cabin crew member and another passenger before being detained by police upon landing, the airline said in a statement.
The incident occurred on flight VF-1990, traveling from London Stansted Airport to Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport, according to AJet. The airline said a foreign national passenger who had been drinking alcohol became disruptive during the flight.
The intoxicated passenger first caused discomfort to a woman seated nearby, AJet said. Cabin crew intervened to address the situation, but the passenger continued the disruptive behavior despite repeated warnings, according to the airline.
The situation escalated when the passenger bit and injured both the cabin crew member who had intervened and a fellow passenger, AJet said. In response, crew applied what the airline described as flight safety procedures to restrain the passenger for the remainder of the journey.
Following the plane's landing, law enforcement officers who had been called to meet the aircraft took the passenger into custody, according to the statement. Both the injured passenger and the crew member have filed formal complaints against the individual, AJet said.
The airline said the passenger has been placed on a blacklist in accordance with its flight safety policy and is now barred from future AJet flights.
AJet's statement, issued through its press office, did not provide the nationality, age or identity of the passenger involved, nor did it specify the total number of passengers aboard the flight.
