Egypt highlights Türkiye’s Havelsan-backed ‘Hamza-1’ drone at EDEX exhibition

Egypt unveiled “Hamza-1,” its first locally produced vertical-takeoff drone developed with Türkiye, during the Egypt International Defense Industries Exhibition (EDEX 2025), underscoring expanding defense cooperation between the two countries.

The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) has named the new drone, which is manufactured in cooperation with the Turkish side, “Hamza-1.”

According to the organization, the “Hamza-1” drone, designed for surveillance, reconnaissance and artillery target acquisition, is being produced locally in cooperation with the Turkish company Havelsan.

The “Aqrab” unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), equipped with a remotely operated launch platform and also produced in cooperation with the Turkish company Havelsan, was also showcased.

Showcasing 57 new products

The AOI presented a visual showcase of its capabilities during its participation in EDEX 2025. The presentation highlighted the organization’s work across defense and civilian sectors.

The organization is showcasing a total of 57 products, including 18 new products being displayed for the first time.

The exhibition also showcased the upgraded version of the “Fahd” armored personnel carrier, equipped with a combat turret armed with a 30 mm cannon and two anti-tank missile launchers, as well as an FPV-class loitering munition drone.

This comes as part of the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s efforts to localize the latest technologies in the defense industries sector.

The Arab Organization for Industrialization is taking part in the fourth edition of the EDEX 2025 as part of the pavilion of the Arab Republic of Egypt, held from Dec. 1 to 4, 2025.

A milestone in bilateral industrial, defense cooperation

Egypt and Türkiye signed, on Aug. 26, an agreement for the joint production of vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicles (VTOL-UAVs).

The Turkish ambassador in Cairo, Salih Mutlu Sen, stated on his account on the X platform that the agreement was signed between the Turkish defense technologies company Havelsan and Egypt’s Arab Organization for Industrialization, “marking a milestone in bilateral industrial and defense cooperation.”

The ambassador congratulated both sides on “this achievement,” describing it as “a new chapter in strengthening cooperation between Ankara and Cairo.” He added that this initiative reflects the growing trust and synergy between the two countries in the fields of advanced technology and defense manufacturing.
