The head judge of the Misdemeanor Appeals Court in Egypt’s northern Alexandria governorate ended his life on Sunday evening, shooting himself with his personal firearm inside the judges’ lounge in the Sidi Gaber district of the city, shortly after concluding his regular judicial duties for the day.
The security services in Alexandria’s Security Directorate received a notification from the emergency police reporting that the chief of the Sidi Gaber Police Department had informed them of the presence of the body of a member of the judicial authority.
The body was found inside the judges’ lounge in the Smouha area within the department’s jurisdiction.
Security forces, accompanied by an ambulance, moved to the scene of the incident, where an initial examination revealed the body of the judge, the head of the Raml Second Misdemeanor Appeals Court in Alexandria.
A forensic inspection showed that he had sustained a gunshot wound with both an entry and exit point, fired from close range, and the firearm used was found lying next to the body.
The Public Prosecution was notified and arrived at the scene to conduct an inspection.
It ordered forensic evidence experts to collect traces from the site and gather any spent casings, in addition to seizing the firearm used in the incident.
The body was transferred to the morgue under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, while the police filed the necessary report and assigned the investigations unit to conduct inquiries to determine the circumstances and details of the incident.
