President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday Türkiye feels “deep sorrow” and concern over the joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on neighboring Iran.

He said the attacks clearly violate Iran’s sovereignty and threaten the peace of the Iranian people.

“We deeply regret the attacks carried out this morning, which openly violate Iran’s sovereignty and target the peace of our friend and brotherly Iranian people,” Erdogan said.

"Attacks began with Netanyahu’s provocations"

Erdogan said the U.S.-Israeli strikes began with provocations by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He stated that Türkiye has made serious efforts for a long time to resolve disagreements through dialogue at the negotiating table.

“Because the crisis of confidence between the parties was not overcome and Israel’s attempts to poison the process continued, the desired result could not be achieved,” he said.

Call for restraint and ceasefire

Erdogan warned that if common sense does not prevail and diplomacy is not given a chance, the region risks being dragged into a “ring of fire.”

“To prevent further bloodshed and greater suffering in our region, all actors, especially the Islamic world, must act urgently,” he said.

He added that Türkiye will accelerate diplomatic efforts to first establish a ceasefire and then return to negotiations.

“As Türkiye, as we have done from the first day, we are doing and will continue to do whatever falls to us to resolve problems calmly,” Erdogan said.

Security measures and regional concerns

Erdogan said Türkiye has no problems in terms of border security and airspace.

“Our military, gendarmerie, police and intelligence are taking all measures at the highest level,” he said.

He stressed that Türkiye will manage the sensitive process with a policy prioritizing the security of the country and its people.

Erdogan also said that Iran’s missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf countries are unacceptable, regardless of the reason.
