Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed hope on Monday that Azerbaijan's recent parliamentary elections, held on Sept. 1, will be "auspicious" for the country.

In a statement, the ministry described the elections as historic and emphasized their significance in reflecting the will of the Azerbaijani people. "We firmly believe that the results will contribute significantly to the establishment of lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus," the ministry added.

Azerbaijanis went to the polls to elect members of the 125-seat National Assembly, with 990 candidates contesting for seats. Approximately 6.42 million voters were registered for the election, which marked a significant milestone, being the first parliamentary election in 30 years to include regions recently liberated from Armenian occupation.

The election follows a decision by President Ilham Aliyev on June 28 to dissolve the previous parliament and set Sept. 1 as the election date, signifying a pivotal moment for the nation’s political future.
