The Global Sumud Fleet, carrying humanitarian aid, has set sail toward Gaza from Spain and Tunisia, organizers said Wednesday.
The fleet includes 22 vessels that departed from Barcelona on Aug. 31 and 23 boats joining from Tunisia.
The mission aims to deliver aid to civilians in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict.
Huseyin Durmaz, coordinator of the Türkiye Delegation for the Global Sumud Fleet, told reporters that around 50 boats are currently progressing smoothly at sea.
“They will converge at predetermined locations in the Mediterranean within one to two days. Even if just two ships reach Gaza, it will be a success,” Durmaz said.
Durmaz warned that Israeli forces could attempt to prevent the fleet from reaching Gaza.
“They will intervene at every point to reduce the number of boats confronting them. Our task is to ensure as many vessels as possible make it to Gaza,” he added.
According to Durmaz, the fleet currently consists of approximately 50 vessels. “Türkiye has the highest number of participants. No other delegation has over 30 participants, while Turkey currently has around 50 aboard,” he said.
The fleet is expected to arrive in Gaza within roughly two weeks, organizers said.
