Hamas on Monday praised a shooting attack at the Ramot Junction in occupied East Jerusalem that killed five Israelis and wounded 15, calling it a “natural response” to Israeli actions against Palestinians.
In a written statement, Hamas said it “salutes the heroic and unique operation carried out by two Palestinian resistance fighters in northern Ramot.” The group described the attack as a direct reaction to Israeli crimes and what it called a “genocidal war” against Gaza and Palestinians.
Hamas warned that plans to occupy Gaza or disrespect the Al-Aqsa Mosque “will not go unpunished.”
The statement emphasized that Israel’s assaults in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem would not weaken the determination of Palestinians or their resistance.
“This operation in the heart of Jerusalem targeted the depth of the occupation’s security and confirmed our revolutionary youth’s determination to continue fighting against the occupiers and Zionist aggression,” it said.
Israeli cities and illegal settlements have occasionally experienced armed attacks resulting in deaths and injuries. Palestinian groups frame these attacks as a response to Israel’s military operations in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023.
According to Palestinian sources, Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank have killed at least 64,455 Palestinians, mostly women and children, injured over 162,776, displaced hundreds of thousands, and left more than 9,000 missing. In Gaza alone, 393 Palestinians, including 140 children, have died of hunger amid blockades imposed by Israel.
