A shooting attack at the Ramot Junction on the northern entrance of occupied East Jerusalem on Monday morning left at least five Israelis dead and 15 others wounded, according to Israeli media and police.
Israeli police said two assailants believed to be responsible for the shooting were killed at the scene.
Roads to the area were closed, and reinforcements were deployed.
Israel’s emergency service, Magen David Adom, reported that five of the 15 wounded were in critical condition. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Following the attack, Israeli authorities raised the security alert across Jerusalem and temporarily shut down all entry points into the city.
Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported the story from Amman, Jordan, noting that it is banned from operating in both Israel and the occupied West Bank.
Israel’s Channel 12, citing footage from the scene, reported that the attackers appeared to have used a makeshift “Carlo” submachine gun, modeled after the Swedish Carl Gustav design.
