Palestinian group Hamas announced that it will release U.S.-Israeli dual citizen hostage Edan Alexander, calling it a first step toward achieving a cease-fire, reopening access points into Gaza, and facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid. The statement followed talks with the U.S. administration, with Hamas saying it had responded positively to these initial steps.

Hamas signals readiness for broader deal

In its announcement, Hamas emphasized its willingness to begin intensive negotiations aimed at ending the war, reaching a mutual prisoner exchange, establishing governance in Gaza through an independent and professional committee, ensuring long-term calm and stability, enabling reconstruction, and lifting the blockade.

The group also expressed gratitude to the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye for their tireless efforts during the negotiation process.
