Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced plans to resume nuclear negotiations with the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany.

Speaking in New York at the U.N. General Assembly, he emphasized ongoing discussions with foreign ministers and expressed optimism about reviving talks despite challenges posed by international crises, including those in Ukraine and Gaza.

Nuclear negotiations with Iran

The 2015 nuclear deal, signed between Iran and the P5+1 nations (U.S., Russia, China, U.K., France, and Germany), aimed to regulate Tehran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

However, the U.S. withdrew from the deal in 2018 under President Donald Trump, reimposing sanctions on Iran, which then gradually suspended its commitments under the agreement.
