Iran on Monday condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank and called on the international community to take “serious and decisive action” to protect Palestinians, ahead of the 81st U.N. General Assembly.
In a Foreign Ministry statement, Tehran accused Israel of “genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity” and called for an end to what it described as continued occupation and further land seizures.
Iran also condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over what it called an insult to Al-Aqsa Mosque and the desecration of the Buraq Wall.
The ministry accused Israel of systematic killings and torture of Palestinians, saying more than 10,000 Palestinian women and children have been detained.
It alleged that dozens have died in custody and that hundreds have suffered amputations or disabilities.
Iran also claimed that at least three Palestinian prisoners die under torture each month, describing the situation as evidence of what it called Israel’s “apartheid and colonial nature.”
The ministry accused the U.S. of providing Israel with military, financial and political support and of shielding it from accountability.
It also criticized what it described as pressure and sanctions against international judges and human rights advocates.
Iran said Israel’s conduct over the past eight decades had damaged the credibility of the U.N. and international law, and accused it of repeatedly violating U.N. resolutions.
With the 81st U.N. General Assembly focused on “renewing trust” in the organization, Tehran urged governments to support Palestinians’ right to self-determination.
It called for immediate measures to stop what it described as genocide, prevent further occupation and land seizures, ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza and hold those responsible accountable.
