Iran's semi-official Tasnim and Mehr news agencies reported Sunday that an "enemy" F-15 fighter jet was targeted by Iranian army air defense systems near Hormuz Island after being intercepted over the country's southern coast.
"The fate of the aircraft is under investigation," Iran's army public relations office said.
There is no immediate confirmation or denial from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) or the Israeli army.
Iran's Joint Air Defense Command said in a statement carried by Tasnim: "A few hours ago, an enemy's F-15 fighter jet was targeted by army air defense ground-to-air missile systems over the southern coastal skies of the country near Hormuz Island after being intercepted and fired upon.
According to the army's public relations office, an investigation has begun to determine the fate of the fighter jet and is ongoing."
Iran announced on March 19 that it had shot down a U.S. F-35, and on March 21, Tehran announced the same for Israel.
The U.S. military announced that the F-35 targeted by Iran made a "hard landing" at a base in one of the countries in the region. Israel also announced that an F-16 was targeted in Iran but was undamaged.
