Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday indicated that missile and drone strikes against Saudi Arabia were justified by the presence of U.S. military systems in neighboring countries.
In a post on X, Araghchi said U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) had acknowledged deploying HIMARS rocket systems in regional countries, claiming the systems were positioned near civilian infrastructure, including a desalination plant.
He warned that Iranian missiles would target the systems wherever they are deployed.
“Thank you CENTCOM for admitting that you are using our neighbors’ territory to deploy HIMARS systems against our people,” Araghchi wrote.
“Nobody should complain if our powerful missiles destroy these systems wherever they are in retribution,” he added.
Iran has long accused Washington of using Gulf countries as staging grounds for military operations against Tehran.
Regional tensions have escalated since the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28.
According to Iranian authorities, the strikes have killed more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to the Pentagon, more than 50,000 U.S. troops are involved in what it calls Operation Epic Fury.
Iran has retaliated with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and several Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
Earlier, Araghchi warned Washington that Tehran is “fully prepared” for further escalation.
“Blame for surging gas prices, costlier mortgages, and pummeled 401(k)'s (retirement plans) lies squarely with Israel and its dupes in Washington,” he said.
“Iran does not want to harm ordinary Americans who overwhelmingly voted to end involvement in costly foreign wars,” he added.
