Iran’s parliament is set to hold a virtual session on Sunday to review legislation on countering foreign influence and international crimes, while lawmakers also examine a plan for managing the Strait of Hormuz, state-run broadcaster IRIB reported.
Members of parliament’s National Security Committee will review details of a “Smart Management Plan” for the strategic waterway, according to the report.
Lawmakers are also expected to consider a bill aimed at countering foreign influence and separate legislation addressing international crimes.
The parliamentary discussions come after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Saturday that Iran and Oman had reached an agreement on a shipping route map for the Strait of Hormuz following weeks of technical negotiations.
The talks were launched under an Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding that tasked Tehran and Muscat with developing a new navigation framework for the strait.
Iran and Oman have continued discussions on shipping routes, but Tehran has repeatedly said reopening the Strait of Hormuz remains dependent on the U.S. fulfilling its obligations under the memorandum.
